The
children of the 1980s were as fanatical about the Care
Bears as the youngster of today are about Beanie Babys.
The Care
Bears premiered in 1985. Each bear
has a different symbol that describes their personality on their
tummy. The Care Bears keep watch over Earth
to keep bad feelings from spreading. The
title characters were a multicolored bunch of bears
with names that matched their personalities: Funshine
Bear, Love a Lot Bear, Grumpy Bear, etc. They live in
the cloud filled land of Care-a-Lot, and descend to
rarth in their Cloud-cars whenever some lonely boy or
girl needed a smile or hug. The villains were always
stopped by using the "Care Bear Stare," which
sent beams of good will from the bears' combined bellies,
enough to soften even the gloomiest heart. The success
of these bears led to a series of TV shows, films and
books.
