The two 9,1m tall gates lead ones into a picturesque setting within the monastry

An amazing and eventful history of the monastery relates back to the year 1858. It is the oldest Budddhist monastery in Singapore. Now, 150 years later, you can find still many interesting things here. For example, the 29 m tall Dragon Light Pagode. Or the Mahavira Hall. This hall completed in 1907, is the most important hall in the monastery and houses the statues of three Buddhas. (Sayamuni, Amitabha and Batshaiaguru) This monastery is the only Buddhist monastery in Singapore gazetted as a National Monument.
