The gate marked the city-entrance. It was built 1672 in order to remind of the French victories in Flanders and at the Rhine

The gate marked also an other city-entrance. It was built 1674 in order to remind of the conquest of Besancons
Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel;
This triumph bow was dedicated to the victories of Napoleon in 1805. The two arches (Arc de Triomphe & Arc de Triopmhe du Caroussel) were to commemorate Napoleon I ‘s victories.
Arc de Triomphe
Commissioned in 1806 by Napoleon, shortly after his victory at Austerlitz, it was not finished until 1836. It is the most-known triomphe bow of Paris. The 50 meters high arch is adorned with many reliefs.
Le Grand Arche
La Grand Arch acts as a futuristic triumph bow. The building was built end of the 1980’s and should represent the modern counterpart to the Arc de Triomphe.
